Why?

Why?

Why do I make what I make?

The building of realistic models and replica scale models of houses, residences, buildings and objects, among other things, has started from a long period of interest in miniatures. In 2020 I converted that interest into making my own miniature atworks in the most realistic way possible.

Initially I created iniature buildings with great interest that I personally experience or have an emotional connection with. In my eventful 80s and 90s, where I spent most of my adolescence, I and my fellow teenagers did not always have the luxury of capturing memorable moments and places with photo cameras. Today we have to make do with the memories. In order to relive these memories and visually support them, I try to physically recreate the memories I cherish most on scale and in as realistic a way as possible.

While building these scale models I imagine myself a bit back to 'that time' where I look back on with great pleasure, happiness, sadness and sometimes with a little emotion. Without any homesickness though. But reliving these memories through a physical replica and being able to share them with friends and relatives is a great opportunity to cherish 'our' history even more intensely. In this way my work not only acquires a more personal meaning for me. I really enjoy seeing the indignation and emotion in the other when they see my work. The twinkle in their eyes, sometimes even with a tear, and the memories that are immediately discussed in word. I love it!
